The
author, Dina Pappas Just a few fabrics, fusible
interfacing, and a little time Finding time to quilt can be challenging. With two small
boys at home I need to make the most of those short blocks of time I
have. Quick Watercolor Quilts shows how much fun you can have with
just a few fabrics and some fusible interfacing. The watercolor, or
colorwash, pattern will emerge from how the fabrics blend
together.
These projects go together fast and
accurately, even for newer quilters. The interfacing piecing will
bridge any gaps between squares or absorb excess into the
folds. Your seams will match like a pro even if you
aren't.
If you follow the fabric selection in the
book and find a good “edge” fabric you can cut strips, cut squares,
and get to the fun part. With the right spacing of floral fabric you
can cut and run. The edge fabrics may not catch your eye in the
fabric store: they are diluted compared to the full floral fabrics
bursting with blooms. But, train yourself to look for the
fabrics with open spaces. These will build a bridge between the
background and and that floral you love. Chances are you probably
won't notice the fabric in the final design, so you don't have to
love it, you just need it for the spacing and colors the resemble
your full floral.
What fun to see how the fabrics cut up
and how you can shape them, concentrate them, and paint with them.
Believe it or not, I do most of the quilts with almost no fussy
cutting. Play with the fabrics until you are pleased with the design
then relax. The stitching is SO easy with interfacing. These are
quilts you can complete in time for gifts, holidays, or fundraisers.
Since most of my students have just
started quilting I wrote the book to take you from start to finish
through your projects. There are even free-motion quilting exercises
in the back to guide you along the learning curve people go through
as they learn to stipple. For those who have done watercolor I hope
you will find ways to add watercolor in areas you may not have
thought about. I hope you enjoy
it. |
